Lock & Key sits within Hochatown town limits, tucked into a half-acre of woods backing right up to the Ouachita National Forest. One practical note: nothing is within walking distance, and the neighborhood doesn't have sidewalks, so plan on driving rather than strolling to dinner.
Rent a pontoon or paddleboard on Broken Bow Lake, float or kayak the Lower Mountain Fork River, or just cool off at one of the area's swimming spots. Kids can tube and swim without worrying about cold water this time of year. When you're back at the cabin, the deck and fire pit take over — evenings here are made for s'mores, a soak in the hot tub, and stars once the sun finally goes down.
The Ouachita Mountains turn deep red, orange, and gold, typically peaking sometime between mid-October and early November — and Lock & Key's deck puts you right in the middle of it without needing to drive anywhere. For a closer look, hike the trails at Beavers Bend State Park or take the scenic drive along the Talimena National Scenic Byway. Cooler evenings mean the fire pit and covered hot tub both get a lot more use.
Winter is when Lock & Key's covered hot tub really earns its keep — usable no matter what the weather's doing outside, which isn't true of every hot tub in the area. Pair that with the fire pit and a slower pace, and this is the season for couples' getaways, holiday trips, and quiet reset weekends. There's no indoor fireplace here, but between the smart TVs, board games, and strong WiFi, staying in feels just as good as heading out.
